What would you like help with?
Requesting
How do I request cards?
To request cards for anything from birthdays and anniversaries to sympathy and encouragement, please post directly in the group.
How old do I have to be to request cards?
You must be 18 or older to request cards. You are welcome to receive cards if you are under 18, but a parent or guardian must request them for you.
I live in Europe or Canada, can I still request cards?
Absolutely! In order to comply with privacy laws in your country, we cannot distribute your address. You must be the one to provide your address either via PM to our Card Warriors or in your post in our private group.
Who can receive a card shower?
Everyone. No matter your age, interests, or location, you are welcome to receive cards. You do not need to be ill, you do not need to send in order to receive. No one is left out, period.
Is there a deadline to request birthday or anniversary cards?
No, but to help everyone’s requests be seen, we ask that you wait until no sooner than a month before your special day (2 months for international) to post.
There is no time frame for urgent requests. Those are accepted every day of the year and are welcome to be posted directly in the group.
What is the difference between a card shower and a card exchange?
A card shower does not require you to send any cards in order to receive cards. Examples of card showers are birthdays, anniversaries, Winter Holiday (Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, etc.), get well, sympathy, and more. Even if you never send a single card with us, you are always welcome to receive card showers.
For our card exchanges we ask that you send at least one card to another member who is participating in the exchange. The mod team cannot automatically add you to the exchanges. You need to sign up for each exchange you want to participate in since you may be interested in one exchange, but not another.
How do I thank the people who sent me cards?
While you aren’t required to thank those who send cards to you, it is highly encouraged. Hearing from those who have received cards and seeing the impact it made on them means the entire world to our Card Warriors.
If you would like to thank them, please post directly in the group or on our weekly Mail Call post.
You are also welcome to send a thank you note if you would like, but this is far above and beyond and never required!
Sending
Where do I find requests to send to?
All of our requests can be found post directly to our private Facebook group. To protect the privacy of our members, we do not share requests on our public Facebook page or our website.
How many cards am I required to send each month?
0! You are never required to send cards. We totally understand that life happens and that’s totally okay. If you can send 20, that’s great. If you can send 1, that’s great too! If you can’t send in a given month, that’s totally okay too. You are free to choose how often you send, who you send to, and how many cards you send.
Please note, the exception to this is if you’ve signed up to participate in one of our optional card exchanges. Please do your best to send to at least one other participant in the exchange. Again, life happens and we totally understand so if circumstances change between when you sign up and the holiday and you can’t send, that is okay. Please don’t sign up for an exchange if you know you won’t be able to send. Exchanges only work if as many of the people as possible who are participating send cards out.
Do I have to participate in exchanges?
No. Everything here is 100% optional. If you do choose to participate, please send for the exchanges you signed up for, but if you never sign up to participate, there is absolutely zero sending requirement.
What should I write in my cards?
As with everything here, that is 100% up to you. Some Card Warriors sign their name, others write long messages. The most important part to a recipient is that someone took the time out of their day to let them know they were being thought of. A message is very nice, but just signing your name, writing Card Warrior (your first name), or something similar is great too. Don’t let not knowing what to write stop you from making someone’s day!
If you’d like to write something to them, make small talk, let them know you are thinking of them, and keep the message light and cheerful. If you both have interests in common, talk about those. If you don’t, talk a bit about things that interest you. One of the most interesting parts about sending and receiving cards is getting to know other people and their cultures, interests, and hobbies.
Some card message ideas to help get the words flowing can be found here.
What can I send with my cards?
What shouldn’t I send with my cards?
You are never ever required nor expected to send anything besides cards. If you choose to send some extra goodies, some popular mailables are stickers, large confetti (please be aware of the age of the recipient when sending small items), coloring pages torn out of books, bookmarks, and our Mailable Hug cards.
Please review any restrictions that may be specified in the request. Some can’t have stickers, glitter, or scented items. Others are non-religious and have requested non-religious cards. Please don’t send any items that are on their restrictions list.
Please refrain from including the following: latex balloons (or other latex items), items that may melt, thick items that may jam machines, loose confetti or glitter (confetti in a small baggie is great), strongly scented items, advertisements/promotional items, religious items to non-religious requests, and Bible tracts (regardless of the recipient’s religion).
Am I required to write anything on the outside of the envelope?
Do I have to include a return address?
The only thing we ask is that you write Random Acts of Cardness or RAOC on the outside of the envelope. This is so recipients know where the cards came from and so they know what group to go to when they would like to thank their sender. If they don’t know what group you’re in, they won’t be able to thank you properly.
Please use a return address in case it is returned due to insufficient postage, an improper address, or another unforeseen issue. If you don’t feel comfortable using your own address, you are welcome to use the RAOC PO Box address as your return address. The address is:
Random Acts of Cardness
PO Box 405
Wickliffe, OH 44092
Labels can be found on our Free Printables page if you wish to print them or you may write it on your envelope by hand.
Here at Random Acts of Cardness, we strive to be as open and low stress as possible. I hope this helps answer some of your questions and helps ease you into the group.
