Magical Mailboxes (and Where To Find Them)

You’re walking down Main Street, U.S.A., your eyes fixed on Sleeping Beauty Castle in the distance, planning which ride you’ll go on first, and dreaming about churros. You may not know it, but as you are walking, you are passing a very cool Disney “secret” that’s hidden in plain sight. Mounted on light posts and walls all over Disneyland are mailboxes, themed to the different lands they are in. Maybe you’ve noticed a couple in the past, but you may not know that Disneyland and its sister park, Disney California Adventure are home to 18 functional mailboxes as well as a handful of non-functional (prop) mailboxes!

First, I’ll answer some of the most common questions about the mailboxes when I tell people about them and then I will talk about the different boxes and where you can find them!

Q & A

  • They sure do! If you put a fully addressed envelope with proper postage, they will be sent just like normal mail!

  • Unfortunately, there isn’t. There used to be when Disneyland had its own post office, but now the boxes are emptied by cast members who transport them to a local post office for delivery and they get the standard electronic postmark from there. The two postmarks I have received are Anaheim and Santa Ana.

This doesn’t take any of the fun away from me. I still have a blast checking out the mailboxes and sending out as many smiles as I can through them.

As I was writing this, someone showed me a postcard they sent that a cast member at city hall stamped for them. They stamped near the postage stamp and it was postmarked over by the post office, but it was still cool to see. Your mileage definitely may vary, but it never hurts to ask!

  • I think it’s fun just knowing they were sent from Disneyland, but if you want to have a special mark that tells the recipient that it was sent there, I would recommend a sticker like the one pictured here, or a Disney themed rubber/clear stamp. I think the “Magical Memories” and castle silhouette stamps in this set would be perfect to stamp on the back or bottom left corner of your envelope!

Important: Do not stamp on top of the postage stamp itself to create a faux postmark. Your letter may not be mailed if the stamp is covered.

    • Send a postcard to a friend or family member.

    • Grab a pack of blank postcards and have your child draw on them. Send them to grandparents and other family members.

    • Send a greeting card through Random Acts of Cardness.

    • Write an encouraging note to yourself to open on a rough day. (Who wouldn’t want some Disney magic when they’re feeling down?)

    • Send me a postcard. (Hey! It’s worth a shot! I’d love to get some random Disney smiles in the mail.)

    • Send out your wedding invitations and save the dates with a touch of magic.

    • Send a letter to your favorite character! May not work anymore, but it’s worth a shot. Make sure you keep a copy of what you or your child wrote if that is important to you. Your letter will not be returned to you. The characters like to keep them to look back on! 😉

        Walt Disney World Communications
        P.O. Box 10040
        Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-0040

      • Disneyland
        Walt Disney Company
        Attn: Fan Mail Department
        500 South Buena Vista Street
        Burbank, CA 91521

  • You can buy stamps ahead of time at your local post office or online at USPS.com. If you are sending postcards, it is cheaper to buy postcard specific stamps. At the time of writing, postcard stamps are 18 cents cheaper a piece than standard forever stamps which adds up if you are sending a lot. If you want to send overseas, you will need a global forever stamp or the equivalent postage, which is currently $1.30. There is nowhere on property to buy postage stamps at the time of writing.

For postcards, you can buy them on property for $6 at Wonderground Gallery in Downtown Disney and in multipacks for slightly cheaper individual prices at World of Disney and few other shops. You can also purchase a pop-up greeting card at the new Lovepop store in Downtown Disney which opened in December of 2021.

Small tangent: Lovepop is a company I am extremely passionate about supporting, especially after they made a massive donation to an organization that sends cards to seniors in homes and assisted living facilities across the country. Let’s show them as much love as they showed the seniors and give them a warm welcome to Disneyland by supporting them and buying some of their stunning cards!

Personally, I bring all of my cards with me. I purchase ahead of time in bulk on Amazon and print some of my own if I have a particular message I want to send. You can get 100 Disney postcards for right around $20 total which is a steal!

Sent from Disneyland Sticker on an Envelope
Mailbox: Pixar Pier

Now that we’ve got the basics covered, let’s talk locations! According to my counts, there are 18 functional mailboxes between both parks: 14 in Disneyland itself and 4 in Disney California Adventure. Part of the fun of Disneyland mailboxes is the hunt and there may very well be more I didn’t see and more could even be added in the future (fingers crossed!). If you know of any that aren’t on the list, I would love to hear about them in the comments!

This past trip, I went to as many mailboxes as I could, but some were blocked off during Sweetheart’s Nite or by ToonTown construction. We were only there one day, so I wasn’t able to get daytime pictures of the ones in Disneyland, just the ones in California Adventure.

Disneyland Mailboxes

Disneyland has 14 functional mailboxes, 6 prop mailboxes, 2 “post office” locations, and 2 missing mailboxes. Here’s how to find them (except the missing ones, of course!):

Entrance

There are 2 mailboxes right as you enter the park just before you enter the tunnels underneath the Disneyland Railroad. They are on either side of the iconic Floral Mickey Mouse just past the gates.

I only have an image of the one you will see if you go through the tunnel on your right as you enter. Apparently, we always go through the right tunnel.

Once you are through the gates to The Happiest Place on Earth, turn to your left and go past the line for the Floral Mickey Mouse PhotoPass. Entrance Mailbox A will be on the right wall just before you enter the tunnel underneath the Disneyland Railroad.

If you go to the right, you will find Entrance Mailbox B on the left wall just before you enter the tunnel beneath the Railroad. This mailbox is probably the most sentimental one to me. I walked through the gates on my first ever trip to any Disney park incredibly excited to hunt down mailboxes and spotted this one right away. It made me so incredibly happy that I had just barely entered the park and already found my first mailbox!!

I used a picture from my July 2021 trip to the parks because they have added a hand sanitizer dispenser right next to it. Completely necessary addition and I totally respect it, but doesn’t make for such a nice picture!

Entrance Mailbox B - July 2021

Main Street, U.S.A.

Main Street, U.S.A. is home to 4 mailboxes. They are all very similar in design, but have some slight differences in color, text, and style.

You will come across the first of the 4, Main Street, U.S.A. Mailbox A, after you pass Entrance Mailbox B and head through the tunnel to the right of the entrance. You can send off a postcard right in front of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln and catch the show right after!

After your show, head on over to the Disneyland Emporium to check out their gorgeous window displays depicting scenes from various Disney and Pixar movies. The Toy Story one is my favorite so far! If it’s still up during your visit, you should stop for a moment to watch. After you’ve seen them all, turn around and Main Street, U.S.A. Mailbox B will be right on the corner of the road.

Head back down Main Street to get your morning cup of coffee and a Danish at Starbucks and as you keep going down Main Street with Sleeping Beauty Castle in your sights, you will spot Main Street, U.S.A. Mailbox C right in front of the entrance to the Disney Clothiers shop.

Keeping your eyes fixed on the Partners statue, continue down Main Street on the same side of the road as Mailbox C just before you enter the hub, you will spot Main Street U.S.A Mailbox D right in front of the entrance to Plaza Point!

Central Plaza

That’s 6 mailboxes down and we haven’t even entered the Hub yet! Let’s continue on to the Central Plaza before we head in to any of the lands.

I actually forgot about these two until I was looking through the pictures I took on my first Disneyland trip in July 2021. I didn’t see them during my trip this time around, but I also didn’t look. They are likely still there, but there is always a chance they aren’t. Both mailboxes are very similar in style, though I only have a picture of Central Plaza Mailbox B.

Continuing on past Main Street U.S.A. Mailbox D, head towards the Partners statue and on the sides of the Plaza, you will find two mailboxes, one on either side.

After you snap a picture of Founders with Sleeping Beauty Castle in the background, you will see Central Plaza Mailbox A and B on your left and on your right respectively.

Tomorrowland

Now that we’ve seen our first 8 mailboxes, let’s head in to our next land: the land of Tomorrow!

I like to enter right near Central Plaza Mailbox B, passing Astro Orbiters and making a left at Star Wars Launch Bay. (I highly recommend you look directly behind you when you reach the Star Wars Launch Bay sign for easily one of the best views of Space Mountain, especially at night.)

Make a right to go towards Autopia where you will find the Winner’s Circle gift stand to the right of the entrance. To the right of that, hanging on the wall, you will find Tomorrowland’s stunning blue mailbox!

This mailbox is actually a much more vibrant blue than this picture shows. It’s getting its almost purplish color from a combination of the setting sun and a light up toy a child was playing with that cast some beautiful glows on the mailbox. The toy made for a pretty cool picture, but doesn’t really show you the full beauty of this mailbox. This one is a must-see and is probably my favorite one at the Disneyland Park.

Tomorrowland Mailbox

Fantasyland

Our next adventure takes us in to the land of Fantasy. Head past Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, past Matterhorn Mountain, and go through the “shortcut” to the right of the castle’s drawbridge that goes past Snow White’s Wishing Well. As you enter Fantasyland, near where the Castle Holiday Shoppe was, you will find…

an empty pole. It seems that with the Holiday Shoppe moving to Main Street, the mailbox was removed, but not moved to the Shoppe’s new location, likely since there is already one there and this one wouldn’t match the aesthetics of Main Street. While I don’t have pictures of it from my first trip, there are a couple blogs that do and you can still see it on Google Earth. This article from D23 has a couple of pictures of it including in the header photo of the article.

I hope that this comes back, either to its original location or elsewhere in Fantasyland not only because one less mailbox in the Magic Kingdom makes me sad, but because besides those down Main Street people pass all the time, this may be one of the most well known mailboxes in all of Disneyland. “Why?” you might ask. Well, this mailbox just so happened to have one of many, likely hundreds of, hidden Mickeys you can find throughout the parks! It featured a beautiful flourish design with leaves and berries on both the top and bottom with a unique skull design adorning the top and a Mickey head in the center of the bottom flourish!

Since the mailbox was removed here in Fantasyland, I wanted to give a little postal-related honorable mention to it’s a small world, specifically the very end of the ride where you pass dozens of large postcards featuring scenery from all over the world! To get to it’s a small world from the (sigh) empty pole, Head towards King Arthur Carrousel. Take a right at Dumbo and a left just past the Storybook Canal Boats. You will see it’s a small world in the distance.

Mickey’s ToonTown

After your ride on it’s a small world, you are a very short walk away from 5 more mailboxes, plus a post office with interactive PO Boxes (and possibly a 6th mailbox if it returns with the revamp)!

While these are non-functional, I still recommend checking them out while you are there if you go before ToonTown’s closure, though at the time of posting this, there will be only a couple weeks left to do so. Some of these mailboxes may not return after the revamp and the ones that do may change, so it’s worth it to see it while you still can, especially if you have little ones. Spend some time at the post office and listen to the character audios on their PO boxes. There’s about a minute to a minute and a half worth of audio for each one, so there’s plenty to check out!

I used pictures from my July 2021 trip except for the PO Box image. I wanted to use daytime images to show off the beautiful, vibrant colors of the mailboxes in ToonTown, especially in case some or all of them don’t return when ToonTown reopens.

If you go straight through the entrance, currently with the construction walls in your sight, on a small island on your right you will find the ToonTown Post Office! Inside you will find the interactive PO Boxes of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Roger Rabbit, Jessica Rabbit, and the appropriately upside-down PO Box of Goofy. When you turn the knobs on each, you will hear many different audio messages from the characters, about a minute and a half from each. This video from rickydoodlebug on YouTube has all of the audio if you would like to hear it!

Right next to the Post Office was the ToonTown Postal Box. I wasn’t able to see it on either of my trips to Disneyland since the construction walls had already gone up (right next to the post office) by the time I went to the parks for the first time in July 2021, but this mailbox was a bright, vibrant, mailbox with exaggerated cartoony proportions (as much of ToonTown is) and I truly hope it returns. This image from Loren Javier shows it in all of its bright, cartoony glory and another video from rickydoodlebug allows you to hear all of its audio!

As you head deeper in to ToonTown towards Goofy’s Gas, you might see that Goofy seems to have had a little accident on his way home! Just in front of his home, you will see that he crashed right in to his mailbox! The mailbox has Goofy’s name in bright letters on the side and is a bright blue box on a “broken” post with his mail bursting out from the crash.

Goofy’s neighbor Donald’s Mailbox is the easiest to miss in all of ToonTown. It is very cleverly “floating” in the water surrounding his home and is much easier to spot at night due to its bright light in the center of the post. The mailbox is bright yellow and floats on a red, blue, white, and yellow buoy. Donald is poking his head through a life preserver with his name on it on the base of the buoy.

We are going to go through ToonTown in a circle, so next we’re going to go past Gadget’s Go Coaster to Chip ‘N Dale’s Treehouse. You will find their mailbox just to the right of their front door. It is made completely of “wood” with an acorn resting on top of the striking blue roof and a flag made from a fallen leaf! Their names are on the front of the box in large, bold letters in the same color as the frame of the box.

Heading back in the direction of Donald and Goofy’s houses, but on the opposite side of the road, you will come across the homes of Mickey and Minnie themselves! Mickey’s house is the first you will reach and his mailbox is right on the sidewalk outside his home. It sits on a wooden post with proportions that remind me of the ToonTown mailbox and is a silvery grey box prominently featuring Mickey’s likeness and name written in his signature red color.

Minnie’s mailbox is just outside her house next to Mickey’s and similarly, is on the sidewalk outside her home. Not to be outdone by Mickey, Minnie’s Mailbox is mounted on a beautiful vine which is planted in a terracotta pot. Flowers are blooming on the stem which wraps around the top of the box. The box itself is a similar color and design to Mickey’s with a silvery grey coloring and Minnie’s likeness being front and center and accented by a stunning bright red bow and beautiful pink lettering spelling her name.

Frontierland

After exiting ToonTown the same way you came in comes possibly the longest walk in the Disneyland portion of this guide. We are going head right back towards Dumbo by passing it’s a small world and this time taking a right at the Storybook canal boats. Wave to Dumbo as you continue past him and out of Fantasyland towards Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

With Big Thunder Mountain on your left, pass the first fork that leads to Galaxy’s edge, and stay on Big Thunder Trail as it hooks to the left. Once you reach the second fork, you can spot the Postmaster’s Office on your right. You can also head slightly down the path for an even better view. While there is no mailbox here, I wanted to include it since like many of the mailboxes on this list, it is a little hidden gem I didn’t even know existed until my second trip!

The other 2 Frontierland mailboxes are very close to one another and might be the closest together besides those on Main Street. Let’s start with the mailbox near Bonanza Outfitters. To get there, continue down Big Thunder Trail with Big Thunder Mountain still on your left until you fully pass it and enter the main area of Frontierland. Pass the dock for the Mark Twain Riverboat and Sailing Ship Columbia and you will see the large sign for The Golden Horseshoe on your left. Head towards it, but don’t go inside. Instead, turn to your left and stay on the wooden porch that wraps around The Golden Horseshoe until just before Bonanza Outfitters. Just in front of the Silver Spur Supplies entrance, you will find the first Frontierland Mailbox on a small pole near the tree to your left.

Once you drop off your mail, turn around and head back towards The Golden Horseshoe, staying on the wooden patio as you pass the entrance. Continue to the left and on the wall to your left, you will spot the second Frontierland Mailbox! I saw this one on my first trip, but completely forgot about it until I saw a video from @sentfromdisneyland on TikTok! This is such a gorgeous box, too! I’m so glad I was able to see it again.

Adventureland

Our next mailbox is pretty close to the mailbox at The Golden Horseshoe, but only as the crow flies. We’re going to have to take the long way around. We are going to head past Stage Door Café, hook a left at River Belle Terrace, and pass Bengal Barbeque. Right next to South Seas Traders, but before you get to Adventureland Bazaar, you will see the beautiful, green Adventureland Mailbox on a very small section of wall right in front of a staircase. The theming around it with all of the plants definitely makes for some great pictures!

Adventureland Bazaar

New orleans square

Our last 2 functional mailboxes in Disneyland are in Critter Country, but first, there is one non-functional mailbox I have only seen in pictures like this one from Cory Doctorow. Let’s make a stop in New Orleans Square on our way over to Critter Country.

First, leave Adventureland by passing Bengal Barbeque and going left once you are past River Belle Terrace. Stay along the water as you walk through New Orleans Square passing Pirates of the Caribbean in the distance until you get to the Haunted Mansion. Again, I haven’t seen it yet. It may be in the queue, but since I use DAS at the parks, I haven’t waited in the traditional queue, so I haven’t seen it (and it was dark and a walk-on during Sweetheart’s Nite). If you know where it is, please let me know! I’d be incredibly grateful!

Critter Country

Continuing on past the Haunted Mansion, you will see the Harbour Galley and the storage dock for Sailing Ship Columbia on your right and Splash Mountain on your left. Continue on past the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes and turn left in to Critter Country.

Immediately to your left, you will see the Briar Patch shop. Right next to the large window on the front of the shop, you will see the Briar Patch Mailbox. It seems this one has moved positions on the front of the building very, very recently. When I visited, on February 3rd, 2022, the mailbox was located on a very small section of wall, so close to the windowsill that it was practically touching it. However, as I was writing this I noticed, this picture on Google Maps that was posted just a month prior in January 2022 that shows it on the much larger stretch of wall to the right of the large windows! I’m very curious about why it was moved and would love to know the story!

I wasn’t able to see the other mailbox in Critter Country on my second trip due to it being blocked by a Sweethearts Nite photo-op, but was able to visit it on my first. To get there, we are going to continue further in to Critter Country, passing the entrance to Splash Mountain, and going under the bridge for the Disneyland Railroad. Straight ahead, you will see the Pooh Corner gift shop. Unless the bench (or even the box!) has been moved, Pooh Corner Mailbox is right above a bench to the left of the entrance.

Briar Patch Mailbox

You’ve now seen all of the mailboxes (at least the ones that I know of) Disneyland has to offer! Which one was your favorite? Do you know of any I didn’t spot? Let me know in the comments!!

Disney california adventure Mailboxes

Now that we’ve covered Disneyland, let’s hop over to Disney California Adventure which is home to 4 functional mailboxes and 1 non-functional mailbox. Here’s how to find them:

Buena Vista Street

Once you enter Disney California Adventure, the first mailbox isn’t far away! Start walking down the left side of the street and head past the entrance to the Five & Dime. Just before you go under the Monorail bridge, you will see the stunning dark green Buena Vista Street Mailbox on a matching light post! All of the functional mailboxes here in DCA share this beautiful vintage style in lots of vibrant colors!

Buena Vista Street Mailbox

Hollywood Land

Let’s continue further in to the park by going down Buena Vista Street and taking a left at the Storytellers statue. Walk down the left side of Hollywood Boulevard and go past the Gone Hollywood gift shop. After you pass Award Wieners, round the corner on your left and right on the corner and you will spot the large, blue, post office-style Hollywood Land Mailbox! Even though it isn’t functional, I love how this mailbox brings even more old-Hollywood theming to this land!

Hollywood Land Mailbox

Pacific Wharf

If you would like to avoid the Avengers Campus crowds, you can do the next three in the opposite order by backtracking down Hollywood Boulevard and going to the Grizzly Peak Mailbox first, then Pixar Pier, and finishing at Pacific Wharf.

Continue back down Hollywood Boulevard towards the mural and Hyperion Theater at the end of the road and turn right in to Avenger’s Campus. You’re going to pass by Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!, then Pym Test Kitchen, then Web Slingers, and head out the main Avenger’s Campus entrance. Turn to your left and pass Cars Land.

Just on the other side of the “Welcome to Cars Land” mural, you will see the side entrance to Pacific Wharf. Head down the path towards the Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop. If you can resist stopping in for a delicious, over-the-top sundae, turn to your right. On your right, in the middle of the seating area, you will spot the gorgeous Pacific Wharf Mailbox!

Pacific Wharf Mailbox

Pixar Pier

While the Tomorrowland Mailbox was my favorite in Disneyland, this next mailbox is my favorite in both parks combined!

To get there, we are going to continue through Pacific Wharf by heading towards Cocina Cucamonga and turning right to go over the bridge. Immediately after getting off the bridge, go left to go over the Pixar Pier bridge. Walk through Pixar Pier and stop to watch a few Incredicoaster launches before continuing on past Jessie’s Critter Carousel and Midway Mania.

Keep walking and go underneath the Incredicoaster track. You will spot Games of Pixar Pier to your left. Just behind the giant Luxo Ball, you will find the stunning, bright red Pixar Pier Mailbox. This mailbox is perfect for sending out your Valentine’s mail (which is exactly what I did on my trip) and looks great for Instagram photos! This one is definitely a must-see and quickly became my favorite after seeing it!

Pixar Pier Mailbox

Grizzly Peak

Now, it’s time for the last mailbox in our tour, one you may be familiar with if you have stayed at the Grand Californian!

Just like the walk from ToonTown to the Frontierland Postmaster’s Office was the longest in Disneyland, this walk is the longest walk in the Disney California Adventure portion. You can either go back the way you came and cross back over the Pixar Pier bridge, but I like the change of scenery that comes with continuing through Pixar Pier. You’re going to go past a lot of rides including Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, Silly Symphony Swings, Jumpin’ Jellyfish, and Golden Zephyr until you reach Ariel’s Undersea Adventure.

Hook a left at the entrance to Ariel’s and head straight to go in to Grizzly Peak. At the fork in the road, you’re going to take a left and pass Redwood Creek Challenge Trail on your left. Keep going straight to pass by Rushin’ River Outfitters and just before you get to the Grand Californian entrance, you will spot the Grizzly Peak Mailbox hanging on the fence to the left of the pergola!

Grizzly Peak Mailbox

You have now seen all of the mailboxes the Disney parks in California have to offer! Did I miss any? Do you have a favorite? Let me know in the comments below!

I hope you have fun hunting down and sending out mail from all of these wonderful mailboxes! Have a blast, have silly fun. That’s what Disneyland is all about after all!
